I saw !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! about how one ought not to buy a 2007 Mercedes S550. If my 200 6 C230 dies like that (it’s on the list of bad balance shafts) I’ll need to replace the offending V6. What engine should I swap in?
Not MY C230 but very similar. I should dyno test mine too...

LSX obviously.

It might not fit... That being said I’d love a small block in my car.

How about a GM LZ9 engine? It’s a 3.9L pushrod 60 degree V6 with variable valve timing and variable intake manifold. It’s actually smaller than some 4 cylinders, fits in almost everything, makes a comparable 240HP, and can be had dirt cheap.

No need for an engine swap, it’s about a $2,500 repair. Really common, and usually affects the 3.5's.

2ZR-FXE
It would take a lot of work, but think of the MPGs!

It would take a lot of work
...to merge onto any freeway. I think the gain in miles per gallon would be cancelled out by the loss in smiles per gallon, though it would be fun to show to other drivers of German cars and see the looks of shock and disgust on their faces... Ich bin ein Prius!

If it’s less common on the 2.5s I probably won’t need to worry so much, $2500 sounds ugly though. That’s like half an NA Miata...

Less than an engine swap though.

That might be workable, I’m more familiar with the 3800 V6 than the LZ9, are there meaningful differences?

Completely different families. The 3800 is an all iron 90 degree V6, it has more in common with the small block chevy (though no parts are actually compatible). The 3900 is part of the 60 degree family that includes such winners as the 2.8L, 3.1L, and 3.4L V6 that powered practically every GM FWD car since the mid 80s to the late 90s. The 3900 has aluminum heads and possibly an aluminum block (not 100% sure on this) and is much lighter, and more efficient than the 3800. It also makes the same power (though less torque) as the 3800 supercharged engine.
That said, if it fits, a 3800 supercharged would be awesome. Just crank that boost up, add headers, tune it, and make 300+ HP all day.

What’s the car worth? You’d probably spend more on the swap.

Yes. If you decide you need to swap it, just put in a 3.5. But that would cost more than just fixing it. Dealers can check your history, it may have been done before you bought it. It takes care of basically every issue those engines have. Sometimes dealers can get some assistance from mbusa to help you with the cost. If it goes, and you decide to fix it, don’t have some random shop do it, it’s an easy job to mess up.
